I wasn’t ready. I knew I wasn’t prepared, but I plastered on a smile and pretended everything was fine. Hopefully everyone would buy it, including Matilda who presented as worried a face as I did. I loved her, and I felt awful that I hadn’t given her the attention or support she needed before the competition.
