Chapter Two

A crowd of doctors and nurses surrounded her, swallowing her in a bubble so I couldn’t see anything but a sea of white coats. I found myself huddled in a corner just before a nurse pulled the curtain closed, blocking my view completely. The sheer curtain was the only thing between Adaline and me, yet it seemed like a thick brick wall. My mind raced as I thought of everything they might do to her, how terrified she had been on the ambulance, and something snapped.
