The day after Hunter’s declaration, Declan went for a walk across campus. He’d been feeling a strange mix of emotions, and hoped the cool air would clear his head. It wasn’t helping much. He was starting to wonder whether he should grab some coffee to keep the walk from being a complete waste of time when he came across Megs breaking down the fundraiser table in the courtyard. She was without her usual posse of shallow friends, and she seemed to be having trouble getting the table to fold up. Declan was startled to realize that he actually felt a little sorry for her, out there having to do all the work by herself. Who am I becoming? Declan wondered. Now he was feeling sorry for Megs? But he was attempting to embrace his new self, so instead of walking past her, he turned and headed toward her.
