Author's Note
Fun fact:
The premise and the plot for the first two-thirds of this story were decided randomly by custom spinners I made and hung on my office wall, then filled with suggestions from friends.
It was definitely a challenge to tie the spinner outcomes into a story that made sense and felt coherent... but I was often surprised by how well things meshed. The characters came alive, and deeper threads emerged. Before I knew it, the story had a life of its own, and I set aside the spins in favor of letting the story itself lead me the rest of the way. At the time of this note, I'm still writing the final third of this story (it will be ready by the time you get to those chapters, don't worry!), but my stories often take turns I didn't expect, even when they *aren't* plotted by spinners. I'm sure I'll still find plenty of surprises.
The original spin info is in Author Notes at the end of each chapter, so you can see what my readers threw at me. (If you prefer to read this without knowing the spins, just skip over the Author Note at the end of each post.) I had some crazy spins to work with! But I'm happy with how it all came together.
I hope you enjoy the story!
