There was no way she could have reached the horse before it darted into the busy street. I saw her running as fast as her feet would move her. I knew the feeling of watching your horse take off toward an open gate—heart-stopping. I was already mounted, so I headed in that direction, quite sure I could head off the horse, maybe even catch her. It wasn’t until I caught and returned the horse to its owner that I realized who said owner was.
