Chapter Twenty-Six: Plotting by Story Structure

Plotting or planning a story around story structure is one of the best ways to ensure your story builds appropriately in tension. Thinking through story structure can even generate ideas for new scenes or events to happen within your story. Whether you jot in notes on a chart (like the ones in this section), or use the charts to help you visualize the plot and then convert it to an outline (as I’ll discuss further in Chapter 28), an understanding of story structure—and the different ways of charting it—is an important tool to have in your writing tool belt.
