Chapter Thirteen

“Psst… Hey.” I tried to wake Jack without waking Annabell, but it wasn’t going well. I had not intended for the three of us to fall asleep crowded on the bed, but we did. The nanny assigned to Annabell’s care for the day had already brought her oatmeal and milk, set out her clothing, and placed several books on the bedside table for morning reading. Ten minutes in and the woman was already a better caregiver than my own mother had been.
