Mattie was a monster on the court. I knew she was freakishly strong, but she was also the best basketball player I’d ever met. She easily dribbled around Anton, who had forgiven and forgotten the entire lunch fiasco and showed up at my house a half-hour after practice. Anton reached for the ball, but Mattie escaped his grasp with a quick turn and took the shot. It swished through scoring another two points.
