Every writer has a unique brain, and therefore a different writing process. While there are some methods which work for a great number of writers, there is also an infinite variety of nuances to how each writer may implement those methods. One of the differences lies in how ideas come to writers and the order in which writers begin developing the story concept. Some writers always begin with characters, others develop the setting first, while still others get early clarity on plot or theme and then build out the story from there. The one thing all writers have in common, though, is that they must all eventually ensure that these factors—characters, setting, plot, and theme—overlap and interconnect to form an interesting and believable story.
