Chapter 10: Crash and Burn

The atmosphere inside the restaurant was exactly what I expected from the outside: cozy and magical. Strands of golden string lights formed a glowing patchwork over the ceiling, with hanging plants and ferns dangling from the corners. Small, white-clothed tables topped with gorgeous red roses were placed strategically throughout the dining space, and gentle music drifted from hidden speakers somewhere overhead, backed by a low chatter of conversations from seated patrons and the sizzle and clanks of meals being prepared behind the doors to the kitchen. The savory scents of garlic and other spices drifting from the kitchen made my mouth water.
